Without proper air movement, the evaporator coil inside your unit can freeze solid, causing the system to blow warm air or stop cooling entirely.
Pull your filter out—if it's gray and matted, swap it for a clean one. We recommend checking them every 30 days during the peak summer heat.
2. Verify Your Thermostat Settings and Sensors
It sounds basic, but double-check that your thermostat is actually switched to 'Cool' and the fan is set to 'Auto' (not 'On'). If the fan is set to 'On,' it will blow air constantly, even when the AC compressor isn't actively cooling it, making it feel like warm air is coming out.
Pro Tip: If your thermostat is old or placed in direct sunlight, the internal sensor might be misreading the room temperature. This can trick your system into thinking the house is already cool when it isn't. If the screen is blank, replace the batteries or check your electrical panel for a tripped breaker.
3. Clear the Vents and the Outdoor Condenser
Airflow is everything. Inside, make sure no rugs, curtains, or furniture are blocking your supply vents. Outside, take a look at your condenser unit. If the metal fins are covered in grass clippings, dirt, or cottonwood fluff, it can't release the heat it pulls from your house. Gently rinse the outside of the unit with a garden hose (do not use a pressure washer) to clear the debris.
