Responded to after-hours emergency call for frozen AC line. Upon arrival, found evaporator coil frozen due to restricted airflow caused by heavily soiled air filter. Powered down system to allow coil to thaw, inspected electrical components including capacitor and contactor which tested within normal parameters, and replaced dirty 20x20x1 filter with new unit. Verified proper airflow restoration and system returned to normal operation.
Completed preventative maintenance tune-up on two residential HVAC systems (6-year-old unit and 10+ year-old unit). During inspection, discovered significant frost accumulation on evaporator coil of one system, indicating potential refrigerant leak or restricted airflow issue. Performed electrical diagnostics using clamp meter, recording amperage draw of 48 amps on affected unit. Inspected capacitors, circuit boards, and electrical connections on both systems to ensure proper operation.
Better than the others!
Replaced two existing Nest smart thermostats with customer-provided standard thermostats. Verified proper wiring connections at both thermostat locations, tested system operation for heating and cooling functionality, and confirmed proper communication between thermostats and HVAC equipment.
Completed comprehensive heating and air maintenance on upstairs unit with reported thermostat cycling issues. Performed 80-point inspection, cleaned outdoor coils, cleaned burners, verified and adjusted gas pressures to manufacturer specifications, and conducted full safety inspection. Tested amperage draws using clamp meter and inspected thermostat wiring connections at wall plate, confirming proper terminal connections for all control wires including Y, G, C, W, and R circuits. System operating within normal parameters upon completion.
Installed dedicated electrical circuit and outlet in bathroom to accommodate new bidet fixture. Ran new wiring from main electrical panel through attic crawl space, securing cable along floor joists with appropriate strapping, and terminated at newly installed GFCI-protected receptacle in bathroom. Added corresponding circuit breaker to main panel and verified proper grounding, load capacity, and code compliance for wet location installation.
Conducted electrical assessment for multiple residential upgrade requests including EV charger installation in garage, TV outlet and mounting preparation, ceiling fan installation, and whole home surge protector integration. Inspected existing electrical panel to verify capacity and available breaker positions for proposed additions. Panel examination revealed adequate space and proper wire management for potential circuit additions. Documented current panel configuration and electrical infrastructure to prepare comprehensive estimate for requested electrical work.
Responded to service call for two HVAC systems (2014 and 2017 models) following recent duct cleaning where organic matter was identified in the units. Inspected both air handler units located in attic space and confirmed presence of dust accumulation and debris on internal components and ductwork surfaces. Installed UV light systems on both air handlers to address microbial growth concerns and improve indoor air quality. UV lights were mounted in optimal positions within the air handler cabinets to maximize exposure to coil surfaces and airstream. Verified proper electrical connections and operational functionality of both UV light installations. Systems tested and confirmed operating as designed with UV lights actively energized.
Responded to no-cool complaint on 2018 AC system with ice formation on evaporator coil, water pooling in drain pan, and inability to maintain setpoint. System running 5+ degrees above thermostat setting of 72°F. Attic unit operating in extreme ambient conditions (110°F, unventilated space). Arrived to find two-zone system with upstairs zone functioning properly while downstairs zone experiencing intermittent cooling. Outdoor condensing unit exhibited delayed startup and abnormal operation. Observed ice buildup on indoor coil and standing water in drain pan, indicating restricted airflow or refrigerant issue. Performed diagnostic testing using clamp meter at outdoor unit. Measured compressor amperage draw at 0.64A and voltage readings. Took additional electrical measurements showing 454.0A reading, suggesting potential starting component or compressor issue. Inspected condenser unit wiring and connections for proper voltage supply and component operation. Identified system operating
Completed comprehensive tune-up on 2013 HVAC system located in attic space, including inspection of air handling unit, refrigerant lines, gas connections, and ductwork. Addressed customer inquiry regarding filter options and recommendations for their system. Noted visible rust and corrosion on metal plenum requiring future attention, documented equipment condition with photos, and verified all electrical connections, blower motors, and flexible ductwork are properly secured and functioning.
Completed comprehensive 200-amp electrical service upgrade including installation of new 200A main panel with copper bus bar, all new circuit breakers, and proper connections. Installed new 200A meter base with appropriate feeder wire routed from the meter to the panel. Established compliant main grounding system consisting of two 8-foot ground rods properly bonded to ensure electrical safety and code compliance.
We lost power due to lightening strike and they had somebody come out early the next day. Bryant was upfront about everything that needed to be done and what the cost would be. He did a visual check of the house explaining all the things he saw and possible issues that may not be visible. He coordinated with Duke Power, the town inspector, and the HVAC technician and made sure everything went smoothly. With his help everything was back up and running that day!!!

Santos arrived promptly and worked diligently to replace my home’s inadequate ductwork. When he completed the job he explained what changes I should notice and encouraged me to contact him if I had any questions or concerns after living with the system for the next week or so. Another great experience with Dawson’s technicians!

The crew was on time. They had everything they needed for the job. They were polite and professional and went to work right away. They cleaned up their work area and left everything in great shape. I was very impressed!
Isaac was a very pleasant and easy technician to work with. He was very polite and professional. Isaac went over everything that was going to do before he did during the inspection that Dawson's died and they're service calls. When had them come to gives a quote on removing can lights on our front porch and installing ceiling fans. Isaac went over everything and had him install the fans the same day. I watched him work and enjoyed great conversations with him while he worked. I will be calling Dawson's for future work

Charlie came out to assess my home for surge protection and did an absolutely outstanding job. After a through system evaluation, he installed two layers of defense for my electronics: first a Vortex Series R VR-120 whole home surge protector at the main breaker panel was installed and then a secondary point of use Vortex Series B VB1-60-4XP surge protector on my HVAC equipment. He was professional, highly knowledgeable, and took the time to verify that everything was operating perfectly before he left.
