Here’s what we commonly see:
Dirty Filters Restrict Airflow
The indoor units have washable filters that need cleaning every few weeks when the system runs regularly. Dirty filters reduce cooling and heating performance, make the system work harder and use more energy, can cause the unit to freeze up, and hurt indoor air quality by circulating dust and allergens.
Refrigerant Leaks Reduce Performance
If your mini split isn’t cooling or heating as well as it should, a refrigerant leak is a common culprit. Leaks can occur at connection points, in the line set, or in the indoor or outdoor coils, and they require professional repair because refrigerant handling requires certification and specialized equipment.
Condensate Drain Clogs Cause Water Leaks
The indoor units produce condensation that drains through a small line to the outside. When this drain line gets clogged with algae, mold, or debris, water backs up and leaks from the indoor unit, which can damage walls, ceilings, and floors if not addressed quickly.
Electrical Problems Prevent Operation
Faulty wiring connections, failed capacitors, or control board issues can prevent the system from running properly. Some electrical problems cause the system not to turn on at all, while others cause short-cycling, where the unit starts and stops frequently without completing proper heating or cooling cycles.
Remote Control Or Sensor Issues
Sometimes the problem isn’t with the system itself but with the remote control’s dead batteries, incorrect settings, or sensor malfunctions. The temperature sensor inside the indoor unit tells the system when to run, and if it fails or gets blocked by furniture or curtains, the unit won’t maintain proper temperature.
