Residential AC Repair & Installation
Clayton’s unique climate, positioned near the Neuse River basin, brings severe relative humidity that taxes residential heat pumps and central air systems. We repair and optimize:
- Emergency AC Repair: Rapid diagnosis of frozen evaporator coils, failed capacitor banks, refrigerant leaks (R-410A & R-454B conversion), bad blower motors, and electrical failures.
- AC Replacement & New System Installation: High-efficiency Trane, Carrier, and Lennox central split systems, ductless mini-splits, and variable-speed heat pumps built to manage severe humidity.
- Preventative Maintenance Plans: Bi-annual tune-ups that preserve manufacturer warranties, reduce seasonal utility bills, and prevent mid-summer breakdowns.
Furnace & Heat Pump Repair
Whether your home relies on natural gas, propane, electric heating strips, or a hybrid dual-fuel system, our technicians carry common replacement parts directly on their trucks to resolve issues in a single visit:
- Gas Furnace Repair: Rapid resolution for cracked heat exchangers, dirty flame sensors, failed hot surface igniters, faulty gas valves, and draft inducer motor failures.
- Heat Pump Repair & Defrost Diagnostics: Heat pumps are extremely common in Clayton. We fix reversing valves, stuck defrost boards, refrigerant leaks, and failed auxiliary heat coils that blow cold air during winter freezes.
- New Furnace Installation & Replacement: Upgrades to high-efficiency (96%+ AFUE) gas furnaces and variable-speed heat pumps that lower monthly winter utility bills.
Common Repair Issues
Oftentimes, a faulty or clogged part is behind the problem. Our NATE certified technicians can determine which component is malfunctioning and repair it quickly and effectively. We service parts like blower motors, fan blades, evaporator coils, and more. Our team members can also identify and fix clogged areas, such as drain hoses, or repair leaks in refrigerant lines.
With our repair service, we inspect electrical connections and thermostat settings for any irregularities. A technician can also check pilot lights and ignition switches to see if any problem has developed. Even if the problem is hard to find, rest assured that we can resolve it.

Eliminate Dust, Mold & Allergens from Your Clayton Home
North Carolina’s heavy pine pollen season, long humid summers, and tightly sealed modern homes create the ideal environment for indoor air pollution. When dust, mold spores, pet dander, and excessive humidity recirculate through your HVAC system, it triggers allergies, causes musty odors, and forces your air conditioner to work harder.
Residential Air Duct Cleaning & Moisture Control
The Neuse River basin brings high relative humidity that allows dust mites and mold to thrive inside residential ductwork. Our multi-step restoration process includes:
- HEPA-Filtered Negative Air Extraction: Rotary brush agitation paired with high-CFM negative pressure vacuums strips dust, lint, and dander directly out of your supply and return runs.
- Antimicrobial Duct Sanitization: EPA-registered, non-toxic antimicrobial fogging neutralizes lingering bacteria, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and fungal spores inside the plenum.
- Whole-Home Dehumidifier Installation: Integrated dehumidification systems that keep indoor relative humidity between 40% and 55%—protecting hardwood floors, curbing mold growth, and reducing AC strain.
Serving All Neighborhoods & Business Hubs in Clayton

Performed a second-opinion diagnostic on a 2022 furnace reported to need a blower motor replacement. Inspection of the equipment cabinet found low-voltage wiring and control board connections in place, but also uneven expanding foam sealant around the line set penetration in the cabinet floor, contaminated with dust and debris and with a charred fragment nearby, indicating a possible localized heat or electrical fault that requires further evaluation. Documented findings with photos; the blower motor replacement was not confirmed as the root cause of the no-heat condition.

We started our maintenance program with Dawson Electric for servicing our high-vac unit. We can't tell say enough about how impressed we are with their service. We set things up in July. We never even had to make a call to them - they contacted us about scheduling at the right time. They confirmed ahead of time for the next day- gave an accurate time-frame for the visit, and we're here right on time. Jose Anorez was our technician. He was professional, courteous, and very pleasant to work with. He was thorough when he reviewed the work he performed on our unit. The maintenance form checklist had 90 areas - he highlighted clearly where opportunities existed for consideration and explained clearly the results of the tests that he performed. After that review - one of the areas that would likely need attention now or in the spring we asked him to complete either today or the next visit to our area in the next few weeks. To our surprise he was able to complete that before he left today. Please note- we have always relied on the maintenance program we have been on previously. We changed our service because that business had been bought out and we had fallen through the cracks with their list and updates of their computer system. As a result we were skipped. With not just busy schedules, but injury and health issues had arisen that took me out of my routine. I didn't realize we were skipped for considerable period of time. Our unit is in its 6th year and it was a huge investment when we updated the unit. We had never over the six years missed any servicing until this last 8 months. With new business ownership there the prices had been changed quite a bit- which is what caused me to check out several different area providers. After some careful research we decided to contact Dawson's.had used another service for many years--We feel confident in our choice with Dawson Electric and Air. Their contracted monthly service price is very reasonable and the additional service they provided today was reasonably priced as well. Jose was here two and a half hours and did excellent work. He documented everything he did not only on the form but also pictures were taken of each stage of the work. Everything was sent to me in an email file for my records. This is Top Notch Service - very professional; very friendly; very detailed and thorough. I added just a couple of the photos-- We received over 20 in our review. I know you'll enjoy changing to their service or adding their service- whatever needs you have they'll be honest and forthcoming so you can make a good decision about next steps for your home's comfort and your utility bill staying efficient through the summer and winter months.
Thank you so much, Susan, for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re thrilled to hear you’re already feeling confident in your decision to join the Dawson’s Electric and Air maintenance program. We’re especially glad Jose took the time to be thorough, explain his findings, document everything, and even take care of an item that needed attention before he left. We truly appreciate you recognizing the communication, attention to detail, and care our team puts into every maintenance visit. Thank you for trusting Dawson’s with your home comfort—we’re grateful to have you as part of our maintenance family!
