What To Expect with Ductless Installation & Why DIY Isn’t Recommended At Times

Professional installation is critical for ductless systems to work properly and efficiently.

Here’s what the installation process involves and why DIY installation isn’t recommended:

1. Sizing Things Up

Dawsons’ Air does not just guess where the units go. We measure your rooms, check your electrical panel, and calculate exactly how much power you need. We find the “sweet spot” for every indoor unit to ensure you aren’t stuck with hot or cold spots.

2. Mounting the Indoor Units

Mount the units high on the wall for the best air spread. This involves drilling a small, 3-inch hole for the lines and making sure everything is perfectly level. If it’s tilted even a little, you’ll end up with water leaking down your wall.

3. Setting Up the Outdoor Hub

The outdoor compressor needs a solid, level home—either on a pad or a bracket. Tuck it away from the elements but keep it accessible for maintenance. Mmake sure it’s secured tightly so it doesn’t rattle or keep the neighbors awake.

4. The Tricky Part: Refrigerant Lines

This is where DIY usually goes wrong. We cut, flare, and connect the lines to prevent leaks. Then, we use a vacuum pump to suck out every drop of moisture before charging the system with the exact amount of refrigerant. Even a tiny mistake here can lead to a total system failure.

5. The Final Test

We don’t just flip a switch and leave. We test every connection, check the temperature output of every unit, and make sure the drainage is perfect. Finally, we’ll sit down with you to show you how the remote works so you’re in total control.
